Dortmund Airport
With this investment, Dortmund Airport now has a customized LED solution that meets the highest standards. It improves working conditions on the ground, increases the efficiency of handling processes, and simultaneously reduces energy consumption and light emissions—a sustainable contribution to environmental protection, implemented by Kempf-LED.
Dortmund Airport: LED Apron Lighting
In September 2025, Dortmund Airport fully modernized its apron lighting, drawing on the expertise of Kempf-LED. The old system no longer complied with standards and resulted in inadequate illumination, poor color rendering, and high levels of light pollution. With the new LED floodlight solution, the airport is now utilizing state-of-the-art technology that combines safety, efficiency, and sustainability.
Kempf-LED designed and implemented a system that strictly complies with the specifications of the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and German occupational safety regulations. With a vertical illuminance of at least 20 lux at all relevant aircraft positions and a horizontal illuminance of 30 lux across the entire apron, the new solution significantly exceeds the minimum requirements. A uniformity of ≥0.25 ensures homogeneous illumination without shadows—a crucial factor for the safety of ground personnel.
To meet the demanding standards at every parking position, Kempf-LED planned not only the retrofit but also the installation of four additional lighting masts. This ensures precise light control from optimal angles and achieves seamless coverage.
